Project 49 - Zwolle, The Netherlands

Windesheim Gas Station

In 2000, STUDIO SITEC designed and realized a gas station and shop near the village of Windesheim. Positioned next to the busy road, but close to the historical Mill and Windesheim church, the gas station is designed as a humble technical element belonging to the dynamics of the road. It does not compete with the monuments around it and keeps clear the view of the mill. The technical object is designed as a column-free, double-curved, zinc-covered roof, hanging on a steel exoskeleton. Via two Z-shaped steel columns, the structure is connected to the shop, which acts as a counterbalance to the 11.2m cantilevered roof.
