Project 349 - Zwolle, The Netherlands

Thomas A Kempis Museum

The location for the museum is the Agnietenberg in Zwolle, The Netherlands, where Thomas a Kempis once lived in a monastery. A Kempis was a member of Modern Devotion, a spiritual movement during the late medieval period and became famous as the author of The Imitation of Christ, one of the most read books after the Bible. After entering the museum, a modern wooden structure guides visitors’ explorations of A Kempis’ life and philosophy, and leads to a courtyard-facing mediation space. The museum is a partial reconstruction of a former school.
