STUDIO SITEC combined the revitalization of two monument buildings on the canal-side with a new urban apartment block on the Heiligeweg. The newly-created courtyard and elevators, stairs and sky bridges connect the three separate buildings. The ‘Factoor’ and the ‘Pakhuis’ monument buildings have two-storey-high office space accessible from the Thorbeckegracht; and apartments accessible from the courtyard. The elevation of the ‘Pakhuis’, an old warehouse, was reconstructed with modern elements like a Corten steel pivoting front door. The 200 m2 loft apartment in this 5.3m wide and 25m long block, has a newly added light-court, a roof terrace and several voids. The building was granted monument status following our refurbishment.
