Project 96 - Zwolle, The Netherlands

House B

STUDIO SITEC was commissioned to extend and modernize a 1930s canal house. The house, built in the 1930s to fill a gap in a 19th century street elevation, was extended at the back with random spaces. Our proposal was a ‘house with the two faces’. The street façade of the original house was contextualized and elements like a chimney were added, forming the ‘first face’. The existing house was refurbished, including a new wine cellar. On the canal side, the random extensions were demolished and we proposed a zinc-clad modern house connected via a newly-created garden to the canal, giving the house a second face. Kitchen and dining areas, a working space and master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, all facing the canal, were added. An added landing place for a boat completes the living experience.
