While the economic aspect is the usual driver behind most buildings and urban settings, revitalisation and redevelopment is motivated by safeguarding the collective memory of a place and keeping it alive in a new development. Mixing old and new generates interesting time-layers, and, as a result, a city becomes more diverse and interesting.
